Looking back at the best sweet treats to have in your lunchbox

Hit the pause button on the healthy school lunch treats . . . just for this week. The sweet tooth in me has me looking back at some of the best treats to find in my lunchbox in those elementary years.

Although I’ve never been over the top on sweets, even in elementary school, I didn’t mind a sweet treat in my lunchbox. Here are my favorites.

Zingers

And I’m talkin’ about the chocolate ones. I know there were other flavors, but the chocolate devil’s food cake variety was what always hit for me. That little layer of chocolate icing on top of the cake . . . the best.

Swiss Rolls

What a fancy little snack . . . okay, I never thought that back then😄 . . . but, these cookies were a more elegant take on the Zingers. How can you not love these? The problem for me was the icing and cake would always get stuck on my fingers. Couldn’t go wrong with these chocolate-covered, cream-filled snack cakes, though.

Chocolate Cupcakes

Just like with the “Swiss Rolls”, chocolate cake with chocolate icing and cream filling. Yes, there is a theme going here. My favorite kind of cake is chocolate cake. The chocolate cupcakes from Little Debbie were another example of taking a few bites of chocolate cake with your lunch.

Zebra cakes

Breaking from the chocolate theme here, but these were one of the snack cake options where I’d do just that. A lighter, but still sweet bite compared to the other choices, but I never complained when I opened my lunchbox and saw these in there.

I also never complained ‘cause I knew better, but never mind that. 😏

Honorable mentions

Let me end this with a quick nod to some other options that deserve a mention. I can’t leave out Twinkies, as they are a classic. Oatmeal cookies were good. Even though I didn’t really get into them at first, Moonpies were ok once in a while, too.

Also, please do not use this week’s article as nutrition advice for school lunches. 😄 Just enjoy the sweet childhood memories it brings to mind.
